Rally updates

We're all very social here at the JLT Tempest Rally - you will find updates and results on here and also on the facebook page tempestrally and on twitter @tempestrally.
All news from the stages welcome.

Friday - scurtineering

Getting quite hectic at scrutineering now. First pictures are up on the Facebook page www.facebook.comtempestrally.

Entry news - Project Mobility has withdrawn its entry....

Thursday evening update

Just a reminder that car thieves and vandals operate extensively throughout the area, especially around the Yateley and Warren Stages. We strongly recommend the use of the signposted, charity run car parks which are alongside the stages (The Yateley Car Park is not very big and by far the best one is Warren with 2 spectator points (Hairpin and 90 right) with wide access roads to other vantage points). The cost is £10 per car towards charity and far cheaper than a new CD player or respray!

Access to Rushmoor is via the Eelmoor Car Park off A323 - At £5 per head for the stage and Service Area it's great value for money with each rally there twice in the day. All of the usual amenities including the Utting Estates Marquee if it is really raining!

Thursday November 4

Final preparations now being made for the JLT Tempest Rallies - entry list update available now.

Tuesday Nov 1 update

A finish crew is urgently required for the Ash Ranges stage.

Weekend weather forecast

Keep up to date with the latest weather forecast on the BBC site...looking a little damp at the moment. http:news.bbc.co.ukweatherforecast4287?

Busman's weekend of competition for Race2Recovery

The Tempest Rally will see a busman's rally for the Race2Recovery team, as it joins the Armed Forces Rally Team (AFRT) on the Tempest Rally, to gain essential training and experience towards its campaign on the 2013 Dakar Rally. The Tempest Rally is based in Aldershot and the stages run over military land, much of which will be familiar to the team from training exercises in the past.
The Tempest will be the second of three events that Race2Recovery team members contest with the AFRT: the first, the Trackrod, saw Major Alan Paramore and Race2Recovery's Corporal Tom Neathway win the Land Rover Challenge class convincingly. The Tempest will see Neathway co-driving for Sgt Ewen Christie who is a regular AFRT driver and will also see Captain Tony Harris from Race2Recovery take the wheel for the first time in anger of one of the AFRT's famous Land Rover Wolfs. Tony will have Cpl Curtis McKerlie who is an experienced AFRT driver and co-driver alongside him for advice and guidance.
The one-day event will give the Race2Recovery team members invaluable experience and training in a host of areas, including stage and road navigation and event infrastructure. This will then be supplemented by the final outing of the year, on the National event of Rally GB in mid-November. This runs on the same stages as the concurrent World Rally Championship event, which will see the 2011 WRC Drivers' title decided.
Commenting, Harris said: "We're incredibly grateful to the Armed Forces Rally Team once again for welcoming us to the team and helping us to gain the experience and knowledge we will need as we move towards our goal of the Dakar Rally in 2013.
"To the AFRT, it is irrelevant that we have been injured in action and are disabled; to them, we are just fellow serving soldiers and as such, they have welcomed us into the Team without any compromises just like all the other newcomers who join them each year. To us, that is exactly as we would want it; Beyond injury, achieving the extraordinary.
"In addition to raising funds for the Race2Recovery Foundation, our aims are to inspire the wider disabled community to realise their goals and demonstrate what is possible, not impossible."

VIP guests

We are looking forward to welcoming some very special guests to this year's JLT Tempest Rallies from Naomi House and Jacksplace.
Naomi House and jacksplace are hospices for children and young adults that provide support to children and young people with conditions that mean they are unlikely to live to become adults.
Competitors Wayne and Darren Bale are supporting the charity and are fresh from a visit to the Sutton Scotney charity with the rally car.

Tempest Rally welcomes Project Mobility

One of the attractions at next weekend’s JLT Tempest Rallies is set to be the Project Mobility 4x4 Team which will be using the event as part of its preparations to competing in the 2014 Dakar Rally.

Project Mobility is dedicated to helping wounded servicemen and women regain independence, confidence and mobility and helps ordinary people achieve extraordinary things – in this case competing in one of the country’s leading rallies on Saturday November 5.

Taking part in the Tempest Rally will be Major James Cameron of 2nd Royal Tank Regiment and Sergeant Allan Jackson of 3 Parachute Regiment in a 1.8 Adapted Landrover , alongside the service crew of abled and differently abled bodied servicemen and civilians.

The Team are fresh from rallies in Yorkshire, North Wales and Somerset.
James is a keen racer and track day driver, instructing both at UK circuits and at the the Nürburgring in Germany. Competition has been a more recent development, and he competed successfully in a number of series over the last two seasons, and is supporting the Project by being their driver for this Rally.

James said "We are very grateful to the organisers of the Tempest Rally for their warm welcome, it's a legendary date in the annual calendar and a fantastic opportunity for more of the team to get stage rally experience. On a personal note I am delighted to be partnered up with Allan and we are looking forward to the event"

Co-driver Allan is a single leg below the knee amputee due to an IED whilst on tour in Afghanistan. He has always been interested in motorsport and Project Mobility are now able to offer him his first experience as a co-driver which he is very much looking forward too.

JLT Tempest Rallies manager Barry Guess said he was delighted the team had chosen to include the Hampshire-based event in its calendar.

“The Aldershot area is the home of the British Army so it is fitting that an organisation dedicated to helping former servicemen and women is involved in the Tempest Rallies based in the town,’’ said Barry. “And there will be plenty of opportunity for spectators to support the crew in rally stages at Rushmoor Arena and nearby Yately and Warren Heath forests.’’

Aldershot is set to host an action-packed day of motorsport entertainment next month with the annual JLT South of England Tempest Rally on Saturday November 5.

Spectators heading to Rushmoor Arena can enjoy free parking and admission is £5 per person (under 11s are free). In the forests parking is £10 per car and prices include a free event guide and entry list.

Full details, maps and entry lists will be available on www.tempestrally.com and the rally is on Twitter @tempestrally and on Facebook.

Marshals

We are still in need of more mashals for the Tempest Rallies if anyone can help out on Saturday November 5. Please contact marshals@tempestrally.com.
